OIL CHANGE TIPS
Mobile oil change vs. quick lube: which is worth it?
A drive-thru quick lube usually has the lower sticker price. A mobile oil change costs more up front, but you get back the drive, the wait and the hour of your day. Which one wins depends on what your time is worth.
Side by side
| Quick lube | Mobile (Lube Lizards) | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | You drive to them | Your driveway, office lot or job site |
| Your time | Drive there, wait in line, drive back | None. You don't need to be there. |
| Price | Usually lower sticker price | $89 conventional or blend, $125 full synthetic, $225 diesel |
| Checkup | Varies by shop | Fluids, tires, brakes, battery, code scan and recall check on every visit |
| Upsells | Common, at the counter | None. We don't do repairs, so we have nothing to sell you. |
| Proof | A receipt | A text report with what we did, what we found and photos |
When a quick lube makes sense
If you're already driving past one, don't mind the wait, and only care about the lowest possible price, a quick lube is a fine choice. Just know which oil your car requires before you pull in, and be ready to say no to add-ons you didn't plan for.
When mobile makes more sense
- Your time is tight. Parents, shift workers and anyone running a business usually come out ahead.
- You have more than one vehicle. We can do several in one visit at the same address.
- You drive a diesel or work truck. Taking a work truck off the job for an oil change costs real money.
- You want straight answers. Because we only do oil changes, our checkup isn't a sales pitch. If something needs a repair, you get photos and our notes, and we refer you to a trusted local shop.
The hidden cost people forget
Add up the drive there, the line, the service and the drive home. For many people that's an hour or more, and often on a Saturday. A mobile oil change turns that hour back into your own time, which is usually where the price difference goes.
Try it once. Book online in about a minute and we'll take care of it in your driveway in Lexington, Irmo, West Columbia, Cayce, Chapin, Gilbert or Red Bank.
